Heartburn In Pregnant Women:
Women are advised to take their meals in very small portions, albeit more frequently, rather than take huge meals. Eating smaller meals more frequently can help the digestive system digest the entire meal better. Pregnant women need to have good digestion as the growing belly puts pressure on the stomach and the other organs, causing undigested food to escape through the esophageal sphincter.
Pregnant women shouldn’t rush eating; rather, they should be eating slowly and steadily, chewing their food well. Don’t drink more water while eating, but you can drink a lot after the meal – which can help in cleansing.
Wear only loose-fitting clothes and avoid tights and other stiff and uncomfortable outfits. Eat some fresh ripe fruits such as papaya and banana, which can help in digestion. Avoid eating other citric as their citric acid content can increase the secretions of the stomach, causing heartburn.
Some medications prescribed during pregnancy can also disturb your digestive system, thereby causing heartburn. Get proper advice from your doctor about the medications you are taking and their effects which may favor the occurrence of heartburn. Get alternative treatments or ask if there are natural products that can relieve you of your digestive discomfort, as most drugs are not safe for pregnant women.
Heartburn In Children:
Heartburn not only affects adults and the aged; it can also occur in children and even infants. The food we consume is the major reason for heartburn, and this reason knows no age restrictions. In infants, the condition is more common but is not properly identified by most parents. When a baby experiences this disorder, he bends his back and gets irritated, or refuses to be fed.
The position of the baby has to be watched while feeding and after feeding. If the child shows some signs of having heartburn, get him to an upright position for about 30 minutes. If you are feeding the baby with bottle milk, you can add rice cereals with the milk. This can easily digest the consumed milk and thereby provide a calm and relaxing effect.
For children, heartburn can easily bother them because of their eating habits. They commonly favor oily and fatty foods which are triggers heartburn. They should be asked to take some chewing gum, and should always be reminded to drink enough water and have a fresh banana.
These are some preventive as well as treatment methods for heartburn and these methods have to be done only under the proper guidance of a health expert.
